Et surtout, \u00e0 quoi cela sert-il\u00a0? Pour le savoir, j&rsquo;ai demand\u00e9 \u00e0 <strong>Luc Julia<\/strong>, <strong>auteur<\/strong> du r\u00e9cent livre \u00e0 succ\u00e8s \u00ab <strong>l&rsquo;intelligence artificielle n&rsquo;existe pas<\/strong> \u00bb de r\u00e9pondre \u00e0 mes quelques questions. Pour cette interview je n\u2019ai pas d\u00e9sir\u00e9 revenir sur le th\u00e8me principal du livre, largement d\u00e9battu dans la presse et dans les blogs (je vous conseille la vid\u00e9o suivante). J&rsquo;ai voulu au contraire profiter de la comp\u00e9tence et de l&rsquo;expertise d&rsquo;un v\u00e9t\u00e9ran de l&rsquo;intelligence artificielle dans la Silicon Valley pour regarder le c\u00f4t\u00e9 positif des choses et bien circonscrire le sujet. Il faut comprendre comment ce concept est venu dans l&rsquo;histoire de l&rsquo;intelligence artificielle dans les soixante derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es. Avec l\u2019intelligence artificielle, on a commenc\u00e9 par essayer de mod\u00e9liser le cerveau. Or bien vite, d\u00e8s les ann\u00e9es 50, on s&rsquo;est aper\u00e7u que c&rsquo;\u00e9tait tr\u00e8s compliqu\u00e9 et qu&rsquo;on n&rsquo;y arriverait pas.\u00a0 On est donc pass\u00e9 aux syst\u00e8mes experts. Tout part du grand nombre de donn\u00e9es disponibles. C&rsquo;est pour cette raison que le machine learning et le deep learning se sont d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s beaucoup\u00a0 apr\u00e8s l&rsquo;apparition d&rsquo;Internet. Le d\u00e9clic s&rsquo;est fait aussi avec l&rsquo;arriv\u00e9e des Big Data.<\/p>\n<p>En machine learning, on prend des donn\u00e9es, puis on va les labelliser avec \u00e9tiquettes pour d\u00e9crire la donn\u00e9e avec des param\u00e8tres qui la d\u00e9crivent le mieux possible. Les Data Scientists vont regarder ces donn\u00e9es et les labelliser en leur attribuant des param\u00e8tres et des caract\u00e9ristiques. On va ensuite utiliser des m\u00e9thodes statistiques pour d\u00e9crire le probl\u00e8me. Puis on cr\u00e9e ce qui s&rsquo;appelle un mod\u00e8le qui sera r\u00e9utilis\u00e9 la prochaine fois que l&rsquo;on rencontre un probl\u00e8me similaire.<\/p>\n<p>Le deep learning est tr\u00e8s similaire mais avec une \u00e9tape de moins, ou une \u00e9tape de plus, selon la fa\u00e7on dont on regarde les choses. L&rsquo;\u00e9tape de moins c&rsquo;est l&rsquo;abandon de la labellisation des donn\u00e9es, car elles vont se labelliser toutes seules. Cela signifie que l&rsquo;on va cr\u00e9er un syst\u00e8me qui va trouver ses propres param\u00e8tres (ceux dont nous parlions tout \u00e0 l&rsquo;heure pour le machine learning). Ceux-ci ne seront plus attribu\u00e9s par des data scientists qui d\u00e9finissaient le probl\u00e8me.<\/p>\n<p>On y arrive en alimentant la machine avec une masse de donn\u00e9es, et en lui demandant de trouver elle m\u00eame des param\u00e8tres en les organisant en plusieurs couches de neurones. En g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, il n&rsquo;y avait qu&rsquo;une ou deux couches dans les\u00a0 r\u00e9seaux de neurones du machine learning, avec le Deep Learning, il y aura une multitude de\u00a0 couches.<\/p>\n<p>Quand un humain va regarder les param\u00e8tres qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 trouv\u00e9s par la machine pour d\u00e9crire un probl\u00e8me, il n&rsquo;est pas certain qu&rsquo;il comprenne la logique de ces param\u00e8tres. Cela veut dire simplement que les calculs math\u00e9matiques qui sont faits pour trouver automatiquement ces labels ou \u00e9tiquettes ne sont pas compatibles avec une logique humaine puisque justement, aucun humain n&rsquo;intervient dans ce processus. A chaque fois que l&rsquo;on rajoute des donn\u00e9es, les param\u00e8tres sont recalcul\u00e9s automatiquement. .<\/p>\n<h3><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Quelques applications du deep learning<\/h3>\n<p>Le Deep Learning est arriv\u00e9 au milieu des ann\u00e9es 2000 et a v\u00e9ritablement explos\u00e9 dans les ann\u00e9es 2010. La premi\u00e8re application en a \u00e9t\u00e9 la reconnaissance d&rsquo;images. On donne une image \u00e0 manger \u00e0 l&rsquo;ordinateur, et celui-ci va la classifier et va en d\u00e9duire qu&rsquo;il s&rsquo;agit d&rsquo;un chat, un chien ou une vache, etc. Cela marchait d\u00e9j\u00e0 tr\u00e8s bien d\u00e9j\u00e0 avec le machine learning mais le r\u00e9sultat \u00e9tait encore bien meilleur avec le Deep Learning. Cela s&rsquo;explique par l&rsquo;abondance de mod\u00e8les d&rsquo;images.<\/p>\n<p>Un autre domaine dans lequel cette technologie s&rsquo;est appliqu\u00e9e avec de tr\u00e8s bons r\u00e9sultats, et o\u00f9 les progr\u00e8s r\u00e9cents (une dizaine d&rsquo;ann\u00e9es) ont \u00e9t\u00e9 spectaculaires, est celui de la reconnaissance de la parole et de la traduction automatique, par exemple. Ce n&rsquo;est pas encore parfait, mais cela marche beaucoup mieux que par le pass\u00e9, il suffit en quelque sorte de nourrir le syst\u00e8me en donn\u00e9es.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Que peut-on imaginer comme applications dans le futur et qui sont assez positives<\/h3>\n<p>Je crois \u00e9norm\u00e9ment \u00e0 l&rsquo;application du machine learning et du deep learning dans le domaine de la m\u00e9decine qui est un domaine o\u00f9 on a \u00e9norm\u00e9ment de donn\u00e9es \u00e0 exploiter. Prenons l&rsquo;ADN en exemple, c&rsquo;est statistiquement tr\u00e8s int\u00e9ressant du fait de l&rsquo;\u00e9norme masse des s\u00e9quences de donn\u00e9es. On peut imaginer qu&rsquo;avec ces technologies d&rsquo;IA on va pouvoir r\u00e9cup\u00e9rer toutes les donn\u00e9es d&rsquo;humains malades ou en bonne sant\u00e9, et cr\u00e9er des mod\u00e8les pour savoir si on observe des d\u00e9g\u00e9n\u00e9rescence ou des mutations, avant m\u00eame qu&rsquo;elles arrivent.<\/p>\n<p>Citons aussi l&rsquo;imagerie m\u00e9dicale visuelle. On peut appliquer ce qu&rsquo;on a r\u00e9alis\u00e9 pour reconna\u00eetre des images d&rsquo;animaux \u00e0 la reconnaissance du cancer du sein par exemple. On peut fournir des millions d&rsquo;images de cancers du sein diff\u00e9rents \u00e0 une machine, bien labellis\u00e9s par des m\u00e9decins ou non, et cette machine en saura forc\u00e9ment beaucoup plus que ce qu&rsquo;aucun m\u00e9decin, aussi bon soit-il, aura jamais vu au cours de sa carri\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>Ce seront des aides extraordinaires. Uniquement des aides car l&rsquo;intelligence artificielle n&rsquo;est qu&rsquo;un outil. En fin de compte, c&rsquo;est l&rsquo;humain qui a la main sur ce que fait le syst\u00e8me.<\/p>\n<p>Prenons ensuite le domaine de la voiture autonome. A partir des donn\u00e9es statistiques g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9es par les voitures en roulant, on peut imaginer que les voitures puissent de plus en plus pouvoir r\u00e9agir seules dans des cas o\u00f9 la rapidit\u00e9 est cruciale et l&rsquo;humain n&rsquo;aurait pas eu la rapidit\u00e9 n\u00e9cessaire.Donc ces syst\u00e8mes de vision (par radars ou lidars ou cam\u00e9ras) sont aussi des syst\u00e8mes de reconnaissance d&rsquo;images qui vont augmenter l&rsquo;autonomie des v\u00e9hicules. Toutefois,\u00a0 je ne pense pas personnellement qu&rsquo;avec ces techniques statistiques actuelles une voiture puisse \u00eatre autonome \u00e0 100% (au niveau 5 comme le disent les sp\u00e9cialistes).<\/p>\n<h3>Une discipline encore balbutiante<\/h3>\n<p>Nous en sommes toujours aux balbutiements de cette discipline qui n&rsquo;a qu&rsquo;une dizaine d&rsquo;ann\u00e9es. Dans le futur on trouvera davantage de champs d&rsquo;application. Mais ce sur quoi il faut \u00eatre tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9cis et clair c&rsquo;est que ces syst\u00e8mes vont \u00eatre compartiment\u00e9s. On parle souvent de l&rsquo;intelligence artificielle g\u00e9n\u00e9ralis\u00e9e mais cela n&rsquo;existera pas car des syst\u00e8mes statistiques ne pourraient se rapprocher du fonctionnement de nos cerveaux avec leur diversit\u00e9.
