En fait, le robot humano\u00efde est une id\u00e9e tr\u00e8s ancienne : le concept m\u00eame de serviteur cr\u00e9\u00e9 pour assister l\u2019homme \u00e9tait pr\u00e9sent dans la mythologie juive avec le <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Golem\">golem<\/a>, et les automates existaient d\u00e9j\u00e0 avant 1500, notamment <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Robot_(L%C3%A9onard_de_Vinci)\">le chevalier m\u00e9canique de L\u00e9onard de\u00a0Vinci<\/a>. Ou simplement le constat que la robotique n&rsquo;a <strong>aucune utilit\u00e9<\/strong> pour le grand public\u2009? Un peu de tout cela certainement. Un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne connu sous le nom de \u00ab\u2009vall\u00e9e de l\u2019\u00e9trange\u2009\u00bb.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Aucun robot construit pour remplir ces buts n\u2019est <strong>jamais sorti de la <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Vall%C3%A9e_d%C3%A9rangeante\"><strong>vall\u00e9e de l\u2019\u00e9trange<\/strong><\/a>, zone de conception o\u00f9 le robot suscite davantage de malaise que d\u2019admiration. L\u2019exemple le plus curieux est <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lesinrocks.com\/2018\/02\/03\/actualite\/prouesse-technique-mini-terminator-ou-vaste-farce-pourquoi-le-robot-sophia-divise-le-monde-scientifique-111038988\/\">le robot Sophia<\/a>, devenu (e\u2009?) citoyen d\u2019Arabie Saoudite. Ses r\u00e9ponses, programm\u00e9es et \u00e9nonc\u00e9es d\u2019une voix monotone, sont parfois accompagn\u00e9es d\u2019un humour d\u00e9rangeant et un court sourire crisp\u00e9 sous des yeux \u00e9carquill\u00e9s qui rendraient le visage de stars botox\u00e9es parfaitement naturel. L\u2019engouement qu\u2019il y a eu autour de ce robot (\u00e0 qui l\u2019on posait des questions comme s\u2019il \u00e9tait le chef supr\u00eame des robots) \u00e9tait curieux, bien qu\u2019il d\u00e9montrait l\u2019int\u00e9r\u00eat du grand public pour le sujet. Invit\u00e9 \u00e0 cette occasion, <span class=\"removed_link\" title=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/rodolphe-gelin-b565271\/\">Rodolphe Gelin, EVP chez Softbank Robotique<\/span>, nous a partag\u00e9 sa vision sur le sujet. Et la vision de l\u2019entreprise autrefois nomm\u00e9e Aldebaran Robotics avant son rachat par le g\u00e9ant japonais SoftBank est \u00ab\u2009<strong>d\u2019apporter les robots \u00e0 la maison<\/strong>\u2009\u00bb. De l\u2019aveu de Rodolphe Gelin, \u00ab\u2009on ne peut pas encore le faire aujourd\u2019hui\u2009\u00bb. Le vrai probl\u00e8me n\u2019est en r\u00e9alit\u00e9 pas celui de la mobilit\u00e9 du robot ni de sa capacit\u00e9 physique \u00e0 saisir et manipuler des objets. \u00ab\u2009Un robot, c\u2019est comme un smartphone : <strong>sans application il ne sert \u00e0 rien<\/strong>\u2009\u00bb, explique Rodolphe.<\/p>\n<h2>Un casse-t\u00eate de programmation, avec des ressources limit\u00e9es<\/h2>\n<p>Et programmer un robot est une t\u00e2che bien plus ardue qu\u2019on peut le penser. Une \u00e9quipe de l\u2019INRIA a par exemple cherch\u00e9 \u00e0 donner \u00e0 Rom\u00e9o, le dernier venu de SoftBank Robotics la capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 saisir des objets sur un plateau mobile (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.espace-sciences.org\/multimedia\/videos\/le-robot-romeo\">voir ici une interview<\/a>). Comment ne pas perdre l\u2019objet des yeux\u2009? Comment ajuster ses gestes aux mouvements de l\u2019objet\u2009? Lorsque l\u2019objet s\u2019\u00e9loigne, \u00e0 partir de quand allonger le bras, bouger le corps, utiliser ses jambes\u2009? Les programmeurs se retrouvent vite coinc\u00e9s dans des <strong>probl\u00e8mes complexes<\/strong>, qui doivent \u00eatre r\u00e9solus avec <strong>peu de moyens technologiques<\/strong>, l\u2019informatique des robots grand public \u00e9tant volontairement all\u00e9g\u00e9e pour en \u00a0limiter les co\u00fbts.<\/p>\n<p>Concr\u00e8tement, cela marque de fortes diff\u00e9rences avec les attentes d\u2019un humain et ce qu\u2019un robot est concr\u00e8tement capable de r\u00e9aliser. Par exemple, la chute\u00a0: nous pouvons distinguer en une seconde si une personne tombe volontairement, s\u2019agenouille pour refaire son lacet, ramasse un objet, etc., ou s\u2019il s\u2019agit d\u2019une vraie chute. \u00ab\u2009Pour reconna\u00eetre une personne qui tombe, le robot va devoir <strong>regarder des milliers de s\u00e9quences<\/strong> de personnes qui tombent pour <strong>reconna\u00eetre des param\u00e8tres<\/strong> comme l\u2019angle, la vitesse, la direction, etc., qui indiquent que la chute est involontaire et que la personne a besoin d\u2019aide.\u2009\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 l\u2019inverse, certains gestes vont \u00eatre <strong>appris rapidement et r\u00e9p\u00e9t\u00e9s \u00e0 la perfection\u00a0<\/strong>: \u00ab\u2009nous avons appris \u00e0 notre robot Pepper le bilboquet\u2009\u00bb, explique Rodolphe. \u00ab\u2009Il lui a fallu 100\u00a0essais pour r\u00e9ussir pour la premi\u00e8re fois. D\u00e8s lors, elle a r\u00e9ussi syst\u00e9matiquement sur tous les essais qui ont suivi\u2009\u00bb. La recherche progresse, mais les robots ont encore cette lourdeur et rigidit\u00e9 qui les caract\u00e9risent.<\/li>\n<li><strong>On attend beaucoup du robot, dont des capacit\u00e9s humaines<\/strong>\u00a0: ce point, empir\u00e9 par les 2\u00a0pr\u00e9c\u00e9dents, est certainement la principale barri\u00e8re. Les robots ne fonctionnent pas comme nous. Ils n\u2019ont pas de conscience et n\u2019ex\u00e9cutent que ce qu\u2019on leur demande. L\u2019apprentissage est celui d\u2019un robot et non d\u2019un homme\u00a0: d\u00e9signez une bouteille de lait \u00e0 un robot en pronon\u00e7ant \u00ab\u2009lait\u2009\u00bb, et il pensera que l\u2019action de pointer le doigt vers quelque chose s\u2019appelle \u00ab\u2009lait\u2009\u00bb. L\u2019homme est capable de personnifier \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s tout, de son portable \u00e0 sa voiture, et le robot cr\u00e9\u00e9 \u00e0 ce but n\u2019\u00e9chappe \u00e9videmment pas \u00e0 la r\u00e8gle, bien au contraire.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>\u00c0 qui vendre de la robotique non encore fonctionnelle\u2009?<\/h2>\n<p>C\u2019est un sentiment \u00e9trange de voir que ces petits <strong>bijoux technologiques<\/strong>, qui sont \u00e0 la pointe du savoir, sont <strong>difficilement commercialisables<\/strong>. Softbank Robotics a eu l\u2019id\u00e9e de cr\u00e9er Pepper (celui de la vid\u00e9o ci-dessus), un robot sur roues avec une tablette pour <strong>guider les clients <\/strong>dans un magasin ou un centre commercial, afin de rentabiliser son activit\u00e9. Nao, le tout premier cr\u00e9\u00e9, a trouv\u00e9 usage dans <strong>l\u2019\u00e9ducation<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailygeekshow.com\/les-enfants-autistes-ont-desormais-un-nouvel-allie-le-robot-nao-qui-les-accompagne-dans-leur-education\/\">notamment pour les autistes<\/a>, o\u00f9 sa patience illimit\u00e9e et sa confiance programm\u00e9e pour \u00eatre in\u00e9branlable permettent d\u2019aider l\u2019enfant \u00e0 communiquer. Romeo est pour l\u2019instant davantage un <strong>concept de recherche<\/strong> et d\u00e9veloppement qu\u2019un projet destin\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00eatre commercialis\u00e9 \u00e0 court terme.<\/p>\n<p><strong>L\u2019assistance aux personnes \u00e2g\u00e9es <\/strong>est \u00e9galement un objectif\u00a0: \u00ab\u2009\u00e9videmment, c\u2019est mieux d\u2019avoir des personnes physiques pour s\u2019en occuper\u2009\u00bb, pr\u00e9cise Rodolphe. \u00ab\u2009Le robot sera davantage utilis\u00e9 en compl\u00e9ment, pendant les absences, etc.\u2009\u00bb. Consult\u00e9es \u00e0 ce propos, les personnes \u00e2g\u00e9es tiennent \u00e0 garder une ind\u00e9pendance\u00a0: \u00ab\u2009je ne veux pas que le robot fasse ce que je sais faire\u2009\u00bb, \u00ab\u2009il ne doit pas d\u00e9cider pour moi\u2009\u00bb. Le premier but du robot est donc d\u2019assurer la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 de la personne (chute, oubli de prendre un m\u00e9dicament, assister les d\u00e9placements, d\u00e9tecter les objets sur le passage), maintenir la connexion\u00a0(rappeler les gens, maintenir l\u2019activit\u00e9 de la personne, faire des jeux cognitifs), aider dans la vie de tous les jours (passer l\u2019aspirateur, laver la vaisselle, aider \u00e0 s\u2019habiller, etc.).<\/p>\n<h2>En bref\u2026<\/h2>\n<p>La robotique est un sujet passionnant, mais sur lequel <strong>le grand public attend beaucoup et sans doute beaucoup trop<\/strong>. Or, recr\u00e9er une r\u00e9flexion et des attitudes d\u2019humain est d\u2019une complexit\u00e9 inou\u00efe. Nous n\u2019en sommes pas encore l\u00e0, m\u00eame si l\u2019IA progresse \u00e0 grands pas.
