Still, I had my doubts about the sheer mass of users who were major contributors to <a href=\"https:\/\/visionarymarketing.com\/2012\/05\/wikipedia-by-numbers\/\">a project like the much publicised<\/a> Wikipedia.<\/p>\n<p>Q: Who maintains Wikipedia? A: 4,300 major contributors<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-58460\" src=\"https:\/\/visionarymarketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/02\/wikipedia.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"520\" height=\"337\" srcset=\"https:\/\/visionarymarketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/02\/wikipedia.png 520w, https:\/\/visionarymarketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/02\/wikipedia-463x300.png 463w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 520px) 100vw, 520px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It turns out that J\u00e9r\u00f4me Delacroix was able to answer that question by pointing me towards the Wikipedia statistics available online (<a title=\"Wikiepdia stats tables\" href=\"https:\/\/stats.wikimedia.org\/EN\/TablesWikipediaEN.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">click here<\/a>).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Taken at face value, the numbers are rather awesome: more than 4300 users have contributed more than 5 articles (since 2001 I assume). When compared to the overall number of Internet users, it may seem very small, but I&#8217;d rather cast a positive look on them and emphasise the significance of the user mass.<\/p>\n<p>The ramp-up of the collaboration on Wikipedia is also very impressive (check the charts by clicking the relevant button).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a question I had had for a long time.
