The idea is to get a better handle on the reasons and the extent of the fraud. NFA came with the annual fraud indicator in 2012. Here are some of the metrics taken out of the report:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a373 billion fraud loss<\/li>\n<li>\u00a320.3 in the public sector<\/li>\n<li>\u00a36.1 for individuals<\/li>\n<li>\u00a345.5 in the private sector<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cWe are also talking of personal tragedies with people who have lost their life\u2019s savings\u201d Harrison added, \u201cit\u2019s not just an economical problem&#8221;. Focusing on the private sector (\u00a345.5 billion). Payment frauds had impacted 71% of victims. The not for profit sector has lost \u00a31.1 billion only and 43% of respondents had been victims.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Online banking fraud remains quite low and falling though. Plastic card fraud is by far the biggest, a little below \u00a3350 m in 2011 falling slightly from 2010 (see picure above). \u201cIt\u2019s not always the case that the Banks are refunding individuals and there are cases in which there is a huge impact on individual users\u201d Harrison said. Yet, whether it\u2019s due to complacency or lack of education (or both), many consumers aren\u2019t really protected from fraud.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to make consumers part of the solution?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about changing behaviours\u201d Harrison said, and the NFA is trying to work with the private sector. The \u201cDevil\u2019s in <em>your<\/em> details\u201d campaign funded jointly with telecom operators.
